BTS fans have expressed their criticism towards South Korean politicians who attempted to recall BTS members serving in the military in order to perform at the World Scout Jamboree’s K-pop Super Live concert in Seoul on 11 August. In South Korea, all able-bodied men between the ages of 18 to 28 are required to complete 18-21 months of military service as part of a conscription system, aimed at deterring aggression from North Korea. However, there are certain exemptions for athletes, classical musicians, traditional musicians, ballet dancers, and others who have achieved top prizes in designated competitions and are considered to have enhanced national prestige. K-pop stars and other entertainers are not granted these privileges.

It was announced in 2022 that BTS would be taking a break to allow each member to pursue their solo careers and fulfill their compulsory military service. In April of this year, J-Hope began his 18-month military service, while Jin became the first member of the group to enter the army prior to him. Suga also recently joined the military for his compulsory service.

On Wednesday, Sung Il-jong of the ruling People Power Party requested that the Ministry of National Defence allow all BTS members serving in the military to perform at the World Scout Jamboree’s concert. However, it has since been confirmed that BTS will not be performing at the event. BTS fans have expressed their disapproval of the lawmakers’ attempt to interrupt the members’ military service.

“They didn’t adequately prepare for Jamboree. It’s absurd authorities putting the responsibility on BTS to clean up their mess,” one BTS fan wrote. Another fan added, “For God’s sake, BTS is not a cultural weapon to be deployed wherever South Korea needs it.” These comments highlight the frustration and anger felt among BTS fans towards the politicians.

In conclusion, there has been backlash from BTS fans towards South Korean politicians who attempted to recall BTS members serving in the military for a concert. Despite the criticism, it has been confirmed that BTS will not be performing at the event. The fans have voiced their disapproval of this attempt to interrupt the members’ military service, emphasizing that BTS should not be used as a tool for political or cultural purposes.
