The Hairy Bikers have made a career announcement ahead of their latest series for the BBC. Simon “Si” King and Dave Myers, who are well-known TV chefs, have released 75 episodes of their podcast, Agony Uncles, since it launched in February 2022. However, they have now announced that they will be taking a break from the podcast. This news was revealed in the synopsis of the latest episode, which featured a compilation of the best moments from their segment “Confidential Corner”.
The duo will be reuniting on-screen for an eight-part BBC series titled The Hairy Bikers Go West, where they will be traveling along the west shores of Britain to explore various culinary surprises. Myers first publicly disclosed his cancer diagnosis on the Agony Uncles podcast in May 2022. He explained that he would be taking a step back from filming and attending food festivals during the summer due to his health condition.
In a recent interview with The Times, King shared that Myers immediately informed him about the diagnosis. King expressed his distress and difficulty in finding the right words to describe the situation. He praised Myers as a “scrapper” and “fighter” and expressed concern for his friend’s well-being.
During Myers’ chemotherapy, King stayed by his side and witnessed the toll it took on his health. King admitted feeling unsettled and distressed seeing someone he loves going through such hardships. He stated that he naturally wants to fix the situation, but sometimes feels helpless.
In September 2022, Myers mentioned that he missed his famous beard, which he lost while undergoing chemotherapy. He expressed the desire to have it back, as he believed the bald head and beard combination suited his biker image. Two months later, Myers expressed gratitude towards his doctors, nurses, and rehabilitation staff in Birmingham who played a significant role in his recovery and helped him regain his ability to walk.
