A Burger King employee at the McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas has received over $400,000 in donations after it was revealed that he had not missed a day of work in 27 years. Kevin Ford, a cook and cashier, has been given $407,000 so far through his GoFundMe page, which was launched by his daughter Seryna. In the last two days, there has been a significant increase in donations, ranging from $10 to $1,000. The fundraiser now has a new goal of $450,000. Ford, a single father of two, has been working at Burger King for 27 years and has never taken a day off. He is motivated by his desire to provide for his family. The health insurance provided by the company has enabled all four of his daughters to receive full coverage throughout high school and college. Ford plans to use the donations for his retirement fund and to visit his grandchildren.
Many donors have expressed how inspired they are by Ford and his dedication to his work. One person wrote, “Your story makes me feel like I’m not alone. Like there is at least 1 other person who has done what I’m doing and succeeded. Thank you, Seryna for sharing, and thank you Kevin for being a great human. Keep on keepin’ on.”
In June 2022, a video was posted on TikTok showing Ford opening a bag of gifts he received from HMSHost, Burger King’s partner company. The gifts included a Starbucks cup, a movie ticket, and a bag of Reese’s Pieces. Some viewers criticized HMSHost for the seemingly trivial nature of the gifts given Ford’s long tenure with the company. However, others praised Ford for his positivity.
Ford’s GoFundMe page quickly went viral after its launch, with comedian David Spade making a donation of $5,000. Spade also reached out to Ford on social media to congratulate him. In April of this year, Ford shared an update on the GoFundMe page, revealing that he had received enough money to visit his grandchild in Texas. He expressed his gratitude for the generosity of people around the world and how it had changed his life forever.
The Independent has contacted Seryna and a representative for Burger King for comment on the donations received by Ford.
