Shirley Ballas, the 62-year-old star of Strictly Come Dancing, is eagerly anticipating the arrival of her first grandchild in October. Ballas, who is often referred to as the “queen of Latin,” is excited to become a “glam-ma” rather than a conventional grandma. Her son Mark, a professional dancer on the US version of Strictly, Dancing With The Stars, and his wife BC Jean, announced in June that they are expecting a baby.

During an appearance on BBC Breakfast, Ballas expressed her excitement, saying, “I’m going to be a glam-ma for the first time. His beautiful wife BC Jean, she’s six-and-a-half months pregnant and I couldn’t be more excited. Due around about 29 October, I believe.”

Ballas plans to visit the couple in Los Angeles, where they live, along with her mother, for a few weeks. She also intends to travel back and forth when the new series of Strictly begins filming in September. Ballas mentioned that Len Goodman, the former head judge, used to fly on a Sunday with Bruno Tonioli and return on a Friday. She sees no reason why she can’t do the same, especially since her son is in Los Angeles.

In addition to discussing her personal life, Ballas also opened up about her participation in a charity challenge later in the month. She will be conquering her fear of heights by taking part in a Skyathlon challenge, which includes a zipline, a 700-ft wing walk, and a 15,000-ft skydive. The challenge aims to raise funds for a suicide prevention charity in memory of her late brother.

Explaining her motivation for the challenge, Ballas mentioned her brother’s tragic suicide 20 years ago and a recent case of a 38-year-old student taking her own life. She emphasized the importance of raising awareness about suicide and urging people to seek help if they are struggling. Her goal is to support the Campaigning Against Living Miserably (Calm) charity.

The new season of Strictly recently unveiled its first batch of celebrity contestants, including Angela Rippon, Layton Williams, and Amanda Abbington. Abbington’s participation garnered controversy due to past comments she made about drag queens.

In conclusion, Shirley Ballas is eagerly awaiting the birth of her first grandchild and plans to be a present and involved glam-ma. She also hopes to raise awareness and funds for a suicide prevention charity through her upcoming charity challenge. Her dedication to both her family and societal issues showcases her character and commitment to making a difference.
