On his LaLiga debut, England international Jude Bellingham scored a goal as Real Madrid began their league season with a 2-0 victory against Athletic Bilbao. Bellingham, who recently transferred from Borussia Dortmund to Real Madrid, scored the team’s second goal eight minutes before halftime. Prior to that, Rodrygo had opened the scoring nine minutes earlier. Bellingham’s performance was at the heart of Real Madrid’s dominant display.

The other two LaLiga games on Saturday ended in draws. Real Sociedad was held to a 1-1 draw at home by Girona, while Real Mallorca secured a point with the same scoreline against Las Palmas. Sociedad took the lead through Takefusa Kubo in just five minutes, but a header from Artem Dovbyk in the 72nd minute ensured a share of the spoils. Las Palmas initially went ahead with Jonathan Viera’s 29th-minute penalty, but Antonio Raillo equalized in the second half.

In Ligue 1, Paris St Germain had a frustrating start to their campaign as they were held to a goalless draw by Lorient at Parc des Princes. Despite creating numerous chances, PSG couldn’t break through the resilient opposition and will see it as two dropped points. Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, and Marco Verratti, all of whom have been linked with moves away from Paris, were left out of the matchday squad by boss Luis Enrique.

In another Ligue 1 fixture, Marseille claimed a comeback victory against Reims at Stade Velodrome. Vitinha’s goal in the 73rd minute secured a 2-1 win after Junya Ito had given Reims the lead and Azzedine Ounahi equalized.

Overall, it was an eventful start to the season as Real Madrid showcased their strength with a convincing win, while several other games ended in draws. Paris St Germain will be disappointed with their scoreless draw, and Marseille showed resilience in their comeback victory. It will be interesting to see how these teams progress as the season unfolds.
