Christian Eriksen has expressed his admiration for fellow Dane Rasmus Hojlund’s progress over the past year and believes that Manchester United are signing a “very good player.” After completing deals for midfielder Mason Mount and goalkeeper Andre Onana, United turned their attention to signing a new striker. While they had been consistently linked with Tottenham’s Harry Kane, they ultimately chose to sign up-and-coming Atalanta forward Hojlund.
The clubs have agreed on a deal worth £64 million, plus an additional £8 million in potential add-ons, for the highly-rated 20-year-old striker. Eriksen, who is also from Denmark, has been impressed by Hojlund’s development, stating, “He’s a strong number nine. He’s developed a lot in the last year from when I first saw him with the national team. So, yeah, he’s a very good player.”
When asked about Hojlund’s low profile until recently, Eriksen speculated, “I suppose we don’t get enough media attention in Denmark, that’s why people outside Denmark don’t know enough. He’s a nice guy, he’s a good player. Like I said, he’s developed, turning into just a nine, which he’s played for the national team. I have to be honest, I haven’t seen that many games for Atalanta, but I know how they play and he fitted in well there. So, yeah, he’s a good player.”
Hojlund started his career at FC Copenhagen and subsequently played for Austrian side Sturm Graz before joining Atalanta last summer. In Serie A, he scored nine goals and also found the net six times in as many appearances for Denmark.
Eriksen revealed that he has not recently discussed with Hojlund what Manchester United is like, but they had spoken when they were in the national team together. Eriksen admitted, “Of course, I’ve said a lot of good stuff – and also said some bad stuff. But in the end, it’s what’s going to happen.”
The acquisition of Hojlund strengthens United’s attacking options for the upcoming season. With Eriksen’s endorsement, the young Danish striker will be eager to make an impact and prove himself at Old Trafford. As United continues to build their team and make significant signings, the expectations for success will be high. Fans and spectators will be looking forward to seeing how Hojlund adapts to the Premier League and contributes to United’s campaign.
