The family of Craig Robertson, a man who was killed by the FBI during an attempted warrant arrest at his Utah home, has claimed that he was “distraught” by what he believed to be a corrupt and overreaching government. In a statement on Facebook, Robertson’s family expressed shock and devastation over his death.
The FBI conducted a raid at Robertson’s residence after he allegedly made threats against President Joe Biden, his family, and former President Barack Obama online. Court documents reveal that Robertson made references to a “presidential assassination” and also targeted Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, Attorney General Merrick Garland, and New York AG Letitia James.
According to a September 2022 Facebook post cited in the court filings, Robertson wrote, “The time is right for a presidential assassination or two. First Joe then Kamala!!!” He was killed by the FBI when he allegedly refused to cooperate and pointed a weapon at the agents, just hours before President Biden was scheduled to arrive in Utah.
The FBI stated that they take all shooting incidents involving their agents or task force members seriously and that the shooting incident is currently under review by the agency’s inspection division.
Robertson’s family described him as someone who deeply loved the country and saw it as a land of liberty, blessed by God. They emphasized that he was frustrated and distraught by what he believed to be the erosion of constitutionally protected freedoms and the overreach of the government.
The family also mentioned that Robertson, as an elderly and mostly homebound individual, often expressed his frustration on social media. However, they asserted that despite his occasional intemperate statements, he would never commit acts of violence against others over political or philosophical disagreements.
The FBI disclosed that they were alerted to Robertson’s online activities by Truth Social in March. Two agents approached Robertson at his home, but he reportedly dismissed the threat, claiming it was just a dream and telling them to leave without a warrant.
Over the following months, the FBI uncovered multiple threats against Attorney General Garland, AG James, and Vice President Kamala Harris. The situation escalated when Robertson posted on Sunday that he had heard President Biden was coming to Utah and that he was preparing his sniper rifle.
The circumstances surrounding Craig Robertson’s death and the alleged threats he made online are currently being investigated by the FBI.
